An app idea

Imagine that you are in your home scrolling through social media and after a while it gets boring because every time you check its the same thing: food, cute pictures of animals, your friends have not responded yet, and you’re also in quarantine. Then, you decided to open up this new app that you downloaded that you saw on the app store where there are no pictures of cute dogs, no pictures of food, and where you don’t have to send messages to friends. Instead you see a lot of people live. You decided to join one and now suddenly you’re laughing because you clicked on one of the lives where some dude is getting absolutely roasted. Then, you decide to join a second live and another person is getting absolutely roasted and now quarantine doesn’t look so bad right now. As you can tell the app is about people making fun of each other and it will be hilarious but before i go any further I should explain how I got here.

AREA OF INTEREST

For a very long time a lot of social media that came out was always focused on taking a picture of your night out or your cat never one dedicated for comedy some came out for but only for memes but that flopped really quick because the memes were posted on other social media. As you can tell I choose social media as my domain to focus at, I choose social media because I believe that there’s still more potential in this domain for more unique apps. When the idea is good the app will most likely explode in this domain with popularity. The interest to make people’s day or the fact that it can change peoples lives is what I liked about this domain aside from the trolls.

PEST ANALYSIS

Right now in social media people post memes, pictures, and videos of all sorts of things and it does get boring after a while. The timing is right because people are in quarantine thus have more time to burn and more things to learn. In my PEST ANALYSIS there is one major flaw and that is the political climate the USA is in right now. I feel like many people would rather see happy things instead of negative. If this app is not monitored well it will not survive. I feel like the political climate should calm down a little before the product comes out so it can be at its full potential and users wont have to worry if other people care if they like the app or not. I believe Potential users will try it because like I stated we are in quarantine and right now many people just need something to laugh at and have a good time.

COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

I feel like many apps in my domain have a similar problem like mine due to the political climate that the United States is in. People have to be careful with what they say on apps like Twitter, Tiktok, and Facebook. My idea is special because it has never been made on what I know of. Also I know a lot of people that just want to end the night off with something funny and plus it’s unique in the sense that this can be seen as something negative at first rather than positive which can bring some interest to some users that would have not tried it out. Also one last thing, there is a possibility that this app can relieve some toxicity on other apps by releasing it on mine.

USER INTERVIEWS

To make an idea that is entertaining we are gonna need to ask some of your potential user base about it first and that is by doing user interviews. I believe the value of doing user interviews can be really useful and very informative if asking the right questions. It can improve the idea, change the idea, and makes the maker feel confident about the idea. Doing these interviews can also be the difference of a good idea to a great idea potentially. My idea is a social media app where people can come and watch roast battles in front of live viewers. Social media can be targeted to anyone. I decided to interview my family members and friends, about 4 people. Some examples of questions I said were

“How often do you see people roasting each other on social media?”,

“Do you like getting roasted”, and

“How does it make you feel watching people getting roasted?”.

These aren’t biased because they ask questions that are against them and to speak only the truth. The people that I’ve interviewed have similar answers, they use the phone for 6+ hours a day, they see people getting roasted every single day but then I had to ask if it gets boring after a while they all said no, and on the feeling side they said that they will be fine getting roasted if only they can roast back.

MIND MAP

I have done a mind map that will be updated the further I go with my topic I believe mind maps are important to scope out the idea and functionality your app is gonna have and that to me is very important as me being a visual learner and I like to imagine it before I create it and the steps I shall take. Here is my mind map it’s not a lot as of 09/19/20 but I will add more hopefully the further I go

PRODUCT UNIQUENESS

My idea is more toward teenagers, and young adults. An app like this could possibly help other apps by bringing in less toxicity on their platform, make them less bored and or relieve stress by laughing at people making fun of each other or doing it themselves. Like I said before in my knowledge I have not seen an app like this at all in my life and so it will be one of its kind due to that and being a one of kind that alone will bring people to want to check it out because it’s different.

USER JOURNEY

During the stage where you start planning it’s very important to find out how the experience is for your users. We can do this by having a detailed description with fake users of how their experience will be like when using the product. Benefits I see in this is to be able to have a better vision in how your interface will be and making more features or useful tweaks so the app gets easier to use.

In this case I wanted to see the user journey of a teenager and a young adult since those two are my targeted demographic.

TEENAGER/ YOUNG ADULT

Marcus is a senior in high school and just barely started school. He does have a part time job and it’s stressful. He just got back to work and decides to open up his phone and look through social media. He has noticed that social media is always the same but his favorite pages he follows always post three things a day and thus doesn’t take a long time to look at them. So he decided to open this “roasting app” said by his friends that he downloaded. He opens up to a simple login page and signs up. He likes how minimalistic the login page was with some text at the bottom and a blurry background picture. He logs in the homepage and sees the logo on the top right of the screen, his name on the top left, the middle part has people that look like they are talking to each other and the bottom is a bar that has the normal social media tabs. He notices he’s in the live section and clicks on the first live he sees. To his surprise he is enjoying the live and the 5 minutes turned into 20 minutes destroying the stress he had inside and the boredom that he carried.

WIREFRAME

Wireframes are really essential when making an app because you get a chance to plan out how your app will look like and the functionality so later you wont go through the hassle of it when it comes time to think about because you already know how it will look like. Thus here is my wireframe I apologize for the sloppy handwriting.
